North East – Aerial Post Plant Weed Control Operation
November 4, 2024
HVP wish to advise of upcoming granular herbicide operations in the North East Region of Victoria.
This weed control operation will see the application of a granular form of hexazinone and clopyralid applied to this year’s re-planted areas. Areas treated include plantations located in Shelley and Myrtleford Plantations. The operations are being used to ensure newly planted trees have reduced competition for water and nutrients this summer.
A helicopter will be used to accurately broadcast the herbicide. Where it is unsuitable to use a helicopter, ground based spot application will be undertaken. The operation is scheduled to commence from early November, and will take approximately a week to complete. It will be delayed if conditions are unsuitable.
HVP will install on ground signage in advance of the operation to highlight the specific area to be treated. Buffer zones are employed and ensure the operation is safe and contained. Buffers of 200m are applied between the operation and any dwellings, and 30m between the operation and protected waterways or adjoining properties.
The use of herbicides in Victoria is in accordance with the Agriculture and Veterinary Chemicals (Control of Use) Regulations 2017. All products used are registered for use in Victoria and have been approved by the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA).
